Why travellers need historical rate data
Before booking a foreign trip you want to know whether the current exchange rate is unusually good or bad relative to the past year. If EUR/GBP is at a 12-month high for sterling, you might time your currency purchase to save 3-5%. A chart makes this immediately visible; a single current rate number does not.
Finance teams use historical rates for expense reconciliation and invoice processing. The CSV download lets you bring the data into Excel or Google Sheets for further analysis without manually transcribing numbers.
Chart and download in three steps
Select a currency pair (ISO 4217 codes with autocomplete for major pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CAD, AUD/USD). Choose a date range (7d, 1m, 3m, 6m, 1y, 2y, or custom). The chart updates immediately; hover any point for exact rate and date. Read the stats (start/end rate, % change, highest, lowest, average) or download as CSV for spreadsheet analysis.
FAQ
How far back does the historical data go?
The chart covers up to 2 years of historical rates for major currency pairs. ECB reference rates go back further for EUR-based pairs. The exact availability depends on the currency pair selected.
Can I download the data as CSV?
Yes. The Download CSV button exports all displayed data points as a comma-separated file that opens directly in Excel or Google Sheets. Useful for travel budget planning or financial analysis.
Do I need to sign up to see historical rates?
No. XE.com requires account login for historical data. This chart fetches public exchange rate data client-side with no login required.
