Pattern Sections
Learn more: tracking multiple pattern sections while knitting
Why a single counter is not enough for complex patterns
A complex sweater has multiple sections: cast-on, ribbing, body at one stitch count, raglan shaping, and collar. Using a single counter for all sections forces you to remember which section you are in and recount from the beginning when you lose your place. The multi-section counter lets you name each section, set its target row count, and track them independently with their own progress bars.
How to set up your project in three steps
First, create a new project and name it (e.g., "Sweater - small"). Then add sections like Ribbing (30 rows), Body (80 rows), and Shaping (24 rows) - set the target row count for each. Finally, tap the large increment button as you knit each row, mark sections complete as you finish them, and the overall progress bar will fill as you advance through the project. Undo last tap if you miscount, and toggle the wakelock to keep your screen on while counting.
Screen wake lock and offline mode - features for real knitting situations
Enable wakelock to prevent your device from locking between taps, which is essential when your hands are full with needles or a crochet hook. The entire app works offline as a Progressive Web App - install it on your home screen and count rows without WiFi, essential for knitting at a campsite, on a plane, or in areas with no signal. All projects save locally to your browser.
FAQ
Can I use this for crochet?
Absolutely. The mechanics are identical - count rows or rounds the same way. Just name your sections accordingly (e.g., "Ribbing" becomes "Cuff rounds", "Body" becomes "Main pattern rounds").
What if I tap the counter by accident?
Use the Undo button to decrement the current section by one row. It only undoes the last tap.
Can I edit a section after I've created it?
Yes. Click on the section name to edit it, or click on the target row count to change the goal. Your progress is preserved.
